Join Georgia Bikes! and 1,000 cyclists on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, as we pedal from communities around Georgia to the state Capitol to celebrate our state’s nationally recognized “Complete Streets” policy!

For the Complete Streets policy to have a real impact on improving the safety and health of our communities, we’re asking state leaders to commit to funding this exciting new vision for the state.

Join Bike Alpharetta as we will ride with our friends from Bike Roswell to downtown Atlanta on March 26! Police will escort the group ride with rolling road closure, beginning 9 a.m. from Alpha Bikes. SeeClickFix: Report Issues in the City of Alpharetta

The City of Alpharetta is partnering with 3rd party provider, SeeClickFix.com in a pilot program to provide citizens & businesses with a method of reporting issues within the city.

SeeClickFix.com is an online web application that allows any individual to report non-emergency issues such as graffiti, potholes or traffic safety issues on a map for everyone to see.

Free mobile reporting tools are also available for the iPhone, Android and Blackberry.

Happy New Year and New Bike Lanes

Happy New Year. In 2013, Alpharetta residents and visitors can enjoy new markings and signage for cyclists. Share the Road signs have been added along Westside Parkway. New bicycle lanes are part of the City Center Downtown Redevelopment Project in downtown Alpharetta.

Bike Drive in North Fulton

SANTA SHOP SUCCESS – 650 BIKES, TRIKES, SCOOTERS CLEANED & REPAIRED!

Thanks to organizers and volunteers who made the 6^th Annual Bike Drive a huge success this year! Bike Alpharetta members were part of the 150-plus volunteers who cleaned and repaired bicycles for North Fulton area children through North Fulton Community Charity’s Santa Shop. Over 650 gently used bikes, trikes, scooters and helmets (and some new ones!) are now ready as gifts to lucky children in our area, through NFCC.

Bike Alpharetta Represented at 2012 Georgia-lina Bike Summit

Georgia and South Carolina bicycle advocacy groups, including Bike Alpharetta, teamed up for a Georgia-lina Bike Summit on October 20 in Augusta, GA. It was a chance for citizens, advocates, planners, engineers, and elected officials to meet and network together. In one announcement, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) unveiled the new Complete Streets policy for the state, which makes it a policy to routinely incorporate bicycle, pedestrian, and transit into the transportation infrastructure. It’s great news for improving mobility, access, and safety for the traveling public, and Georgia is the 26th state in the nation to adopt the Complete Streets initiative.

Workshops at the Summit included Effective Local Advocacy for innovative approaches to cycling safety, education, and awareness; How to be a Bicycle Friendly Community for information leading to a BFC award; and Promoting Cycling & Safe Cycling Behaviors in Small Towns which describes a model for identifying safe routes and publicizing them to the community, among many, many other informative workshops.

In another announcement, Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) announced the Forks Area Trail System in South Carolina has been chosen as International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) Ride Center. Ride Centers are large scale mountain bike trail systems, considered national and international destinations. Only ten in the world have the designation.

Bike To Work Challenge

Whether you are an avid bike rider or even if you haven’t ridden a bike since you were a kid, it’s all about trying a greener and healthier way to get around. Each week, 20,000+ commute trips in metro Atlanta involve a bike. There will be loads of prizes and everyone is eligible. More than 800 commuters have signed up so far!
