Bike Alpharetta

Non-profit in Alpharetta, Ga. to promote safe and fun cycling for all

May is Bike Month

May 5, 2020 by Bike Alpharetta Inc

We are celebrating National Bike Month a little differently this year, but still encourage everyone to roll on your favorite bicycle this spring for fitness, leisure, transportation! Here are three things we are doing:

1. Ride of Silence – Wed, May 20. The annual Ride of Silence is recognized around the world and honors fellow cyclists killed or injured while riding on public roads. The Ride usually involves groups of cyclists in cities across the world riding in silence in solidarity. (see rideofsilence.org for more info).  The ride event continues on this year in Alpharetta, but not as a group activity. To keep at a safe distance, cyclists should ride independently alone or with family members only. We have some cool signs for you to download and wear, a place to take a selfie for social media and general information. Visit our Facebook page for the event details.

2. Big Creek Greenway Art – look for chalk art along the Greenway in Alpharetta this month. Inspirational messages about good health, bike safety and the great outdoors will be popping up. Take a photo of your favorite and post to social media. Have your children join the fun with some of their chalk art too.

3. Encourage Entry-Level Cyclists to Ride

Be safe and enjoy your bicycle rides on the Big Creek Greenway and other trails. Want to pedal on roads to access stores, restaurants and other parks? We have created a Beginner Road Riding Guide. It also contains great resources from our friends at GeorgiaBikes.org. Check it out here, and stay tuned for a free clinic to test your skills later this year.

During their May 2 meeting, the Alpharetta City Council came together with Bike Alpharetta representatives to declare May as Bike Month in Alpharetta and to celebrate what we have accomplished together! Greatly appreciated.
FriYay ride on Big Creek Greenway and headed to @jekyllbrewing taproom on Marconi Drive for post-ride refreshments! - those yellow blooms look nice now, but pollen looms 👀
